The first records have been set at Bundaberg Aquatic Centre

Last Friday, 3rd October, Bundaberg Aquatic Centre welcome Mayor Helen Blackburn, Special Olympics athlete Jaya Tindel and Triple M Bundy’s Jacob and El to come test the new 50m pool in a record-setting race.

Each competitor chose a unique swim stroke to establish the first four records set in the Bundaberg Aquatic Centre pool.

With her bright pink pigtails floating around her, Triple M’s El McPherson came in fourth. Swimming the backstroke in 2 minutes, 8 seconds.

Mayor Helen donned a special set of swimmers from the Sydney 2000 Olympics to place third in the race, setting the first Bundaberg Aquatic Centre breaststroke record at 1 minute, 15 seconds.

Just scraping into second place, Triple M’s Jacob Nicholls set a record for the doggy paddle – a record he believes he’ll be able to hold the longest – with a time of 1 min, 12 seconds.

Our race champion, Jaya, finished with a time oesteef 53 seconds to set the first Bundaberg Aquatic Centre record for the freestyle.

Spirits were high at Bundaberg Aquatic Centre, with a member of the Woollam and Son construction group on stand-by to present each competitor their record-setting certificate.

It’s now only a matter of time until Bundaberg Aquatic Centre’s construction is finalised and we can invite the public to experience the same delight our competitors experienced in the Centre’s first swim!

Bundaberg Aquatic Centre will be inviting some of Bundaberg’s dignitaries to celebrate the progress at the centre next week with a plaque unveiling. Stay tuned by following our Facebook and Instagram accounts or by subscribing to our mailing list, as an opening date will follow shortly after!
