Purpose Built with increased Environmental Awareness
To truly serve the community for generations to come, the Bundaberg Aquatic Centre implements modern technology to offer improvements in energy consumption when compared to older, aging public pools.
To begin with, the roof has been designed to capture rainwater which will be stored onsite and, following appropriate treatment, will be used in the pools. In addition, excess stormwater not captured in the rainwater tanks is treated through a bioretention system before being discharged into Saltwater Creek, helping to protect local waterways.
The extensive roof space also features a total of 110 solar panels that have been installed to power all site lighting, including lighting in the car park. It will also be used to offset the power consumption of the hybrid-heating system, significantly reducing Bundaberg Aquatic Centre’s energy consumption.
The hybrid heating system at Bundaberg Aquatic Centre means that the solar panels on the roof will efficiently power the Centre’s electric heat-pumps during the lower demand summer periods, while the power is supported in higher demand periods over winter so the pools can facilitate year-round swimming.
We thank the Bundaberg Regional Council for their forward-thinking in the design of Bundaberg Aquatic Centre and our Bundaberg community for their contributions in the consultation process.
